The Green Bay Packers trailed for much of the fourth quarter against the Detroit Lions on Sunday until a late touchdown pass from Aaron Rodgers to Randall Cobb gave them a lead they would not relinquish. Had the Packers been unable to pull out the victory, placekicker Mason Crosby would have been a major reason why, as SB Nation's Acme Packing Company explained:

Until Cobb's catch, the story of the day was Mason Crosby's missed field goals. The under-fire Packers kicker had struggled coming into Sunday, and had arguably his worst day of the season against the Lions. After Mike McCarthy opted to leave his offense on the field for a 4th down inside the 35-yard line, Crosby went on to miss his next two kicks, including one from inside 40 yards.
Crosby’s misses came from 38 and 50 yards. The first came as time expired in the first half with Green Bay trailing 10-7. The second came in the fourth quarter with the Packers behind 17-14. Crosby has missed at least one field goal in each of Green Bay’s last four games. For the season, he is just 11-18, though he has made all 30 of his extra point attempts.
Despite Crosby's issues, the Packers have won five games in a row and sit at 7-3 overall. They're still second in the NFC North but would pull even with Chicago with a Bears loss on Monday night.
