Jaguars will start Chad Henne

After nearly beating the Texans, Chad Henne is back under center.

Chad Henne will start at quarterback for the Jacksonville Jaguars this week against the Tennessee Titans, coach Mike Mularkey announced Monday.

After Blaine Gabbert left Sunday's game against the Houston Texans with an elbow injury, Henne nearly led the Jaguars to an upset victory. Henne finished the game 16-for-33 for 354 yards and four touchdowns, but the Jaguars lost in overtime, 43-37.

Mularkey “made it clear Henne’s starting nod is because of his performance, not Gabbert’s injury,” according to NFL.com’s Gregg Rosenthal.

While Henne's performance was good enough for a win, he was out-gunned by Texans quarterback Matt Schaub. Schaub finished 43-of-55 for 527 yards and five touchdowns.

Henne, 27, is in his first season in Jacksonville. In four games, Henne has completed 52 percent of his passes for 569 yards and five touchdowns. He has one interception.

In his sophomore season, Gabbert continues to be a disappointment for the Jaguars. In 10 starts, Gabbert has completed 58 percent of his passes for 1,662 yards and nine touchdowns. He’s thrown six interceptions to lead the Jaguars to a 1-9 record.

Under Gabbert last season, Jacksonville finished 4-10. Gabbert threw for 2,214 yards and 12 touchdowns with 11 interceptions.

The Jaguars host the Titans on Sunday at 1 p.m.
