Broncos work out Steve Slaton with Willis McGahee injured

With Willis McGahee out 6-8 weeks, the Denver Broncos are looking for a potential running back replacement.

The Denver Broncos worked out running backs on Monday in reaction to Willis McGahee's Sunday night injury, and former Houston Texans back Steve Slaton is among those players, according to CBS reporter Jason La Canfora.

Slaton was a third-round pick by Houston in the 2008 NFL Draft. He was a 1,000 yard back his rookie season and played 16 games for the Texans, but those numbers dropped off to 493 yards in 2009 and less than 100 every season since.

In 2011, Slaton played three games with Houston before being acquired by the Miami Dolphins. He played in six total games last year and only received 24 carries.

McGahee injured his right knee during the second quarter of Denver's win against the San Diego Chargers on Sunday. A Monday MRI revealed a torn MCL and a leg fracture that will keep McGahee out of action for 6-8 weeks.

Ronnie Hillman took over for McGahee after the injury.
