Falcons’ Joe Hawley suspended by NFL for violating PED policy

The offensive lineman tested positive for Adderall.

Kevin C. Cox

The NFL suspended Atlanta Falcons offensive lineman Joe Hawley four games Monday for violating the league's performance enhancing drug policy. Hawley earned the suspension for his use of Adderall, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. He did not test positive for any steroids, according to his agent, and he will not appeal the suspension.

Hawley, who is in his third season with the Falcons, has appeared in six games for the team in 2012, all of them as a reserve. He has been playing sparingly this season. Last season, he started 12 games and appeared in 16. The suspension means that he will miss Atlanta's games against Tampa Bay, New Orleans, Carolina and the New York Giants. He'll be eligible to return in Week 16.

The Falcons are 9-1 following Sunday's 23-19 win over the Arizona Cardinals and they return to the field in Week 12 to face the division-rival Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
