Texans vs. Lions, Week 12: Lions bloggers react to frustrating OT loss

The Detroit Lions fell to 4-7 on the season in dramatic fashion, as they dropped an overtime game to the Houston Texans (10-1) on Thanksgiving Day, and Lions bloggers did not hold back in the wake of the 34-31 loss.

The Detroit Lions never trailed the Houston Texans until Shane Graham's 32-yard field goal sailed through the uprights on the final play of overtime, but that was enough to send the Lions home as losers on Thanksgiving Day. The 34-31 loss touched all the wrong nerves with Detroit bloggers would have seen the same situation unfold multiple times this season.

Detroit needed a win to keep any realistic playoff hopes alive, but they continued to commit fatal mistakes that had plagued them throughout the 2012 campaign. A fumble by Brandon Pettigrew killed the team's momentum. Coverage breakdowns allowed Matt Schaub and Andre Johnson to hook up for 188 yards of offense. Jason Hanson pushed a potential game-winning field goal wide right during overtime.

The hits just kept coming for a Lions team that fell to 4-7 after the loss on Thursday. Here is what Sean Yuille from Pride of Detroit had to say after the smoke cleared at Ford Field:

This was honestly one of the most frustrating games I’ve ever watched. It was bad enough that the officials were so terrible, but the fact of the matter is that the Lions gave this game away in the fourth quarter and overtime. As pointed out by Nate Dunlevy, the Lions got into Texans territory on their final six drives of the game and managed to come away with 0 points. They just couldn’t finish a drive without a mistake of some sort, whether it was a sack, turnover or missed field goal. The Lions could have and should have won this game, but they couldn’t overcome their own mistakes.

Yuille had so many mistakes to discuss that he had to create a separate story to handle Jim Schwartz’s bone-headed penalty the coach picked up for tossing the challenge flag on a play he couldn’t ask to review.

Lions fans may have enjoyed a Happy Thanksgiving, but their favorite team provided no assistance in that respect. In Week 13, Detroit will face Andrew Luck and the Indianapolis Colts.
