Julio Jones injury: Falcons WR expected to play vs. Buccaneers

Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones will play on Sunday against the Buccaneers after leaving last week’s game with an ankle injury. Linebacker Sean Weatherspoon will also return for Atlanta.

Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones and linebacker Sean Weatherspoon are expected to play on Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Jones has been hobbled by a sore ankle, which forced him to leave the Falcons' 23-19 victory over the Arizona Cardinals in the fourth quarter. Jones initially hurt the ankle in the Falcons' lone loss of the season, which came in Week 10 against the New Orleans Saints.

Meanwhile, Weatherspoon will be in action for the first time since the Falcons' victory over the Philadelphia Eagles on Oct. 28. Weatherspoon has been dealing with a sprained ankle, but practiced on Wednesday for the first time in three weeks.

That leaves the status of cornerback Asante Samuel (shoulder) and defensive tackles Peria Jerry (shoulder) and Vance Walker (ribs) still up in the air. All three players are listed as questionable. Running back Michael Turner is also listed on the team's injury report with a sore groin, but he is listed as probable and is expected to play.
