Steelers running backs fumble first half away vs. Browns

Each of the Steelers’ top three running backs -- Rashard Mendenhall, Jonathan Dwyer and Isaac Redman -- lost a fumble in the first half of Sunday’s game against the Browns. The Steelers took a 14-13 lead into the locker room, thanks to Chris Rainey.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have been struggling to find a starting running back this season, thanks to a bad mix of injuries and inconsistencies. The team isn't any closer to finding a feature back through one half against the Cleveland Browns, with each of the team's top three running backs -- Rashard Mendenhall, Jonathan Dwyer and Isaac Redman -- losing a fumble.

As a result of the trio's struggles, the diminutive Chris Rainey got the call at the goal line late in the second quarter. He was initially stuffed at the line of scrimmage, but the Browns failed to wrap up and Rainey was able to bounce the ball outside and give the Steelers a 14-13 lead.

Dwyer has eight carries for 21 yards to lead the Steelers’ rushing attack, but Rainey may have earned himself a lot more playing time with the impressive run. No one else is apparently willing to stake a claim to the starting job, so why not the rookie out of Florida?
