Vikings vs. Bears 2012: Poor overall performance dooms Minnesota

The Vikings had issues in a number of areas against the Bears on Sunday.

Jonathan Daniel

The Minnesota Vikings fell to 6-5 Sunday with a 28-10 loss to the Chicago Bears. Their performance against Chicago left a lot to be desired, as SB Nation's Daily Norseman explained afterward:

Minnesota was brutal in pretty much every phase of the game on Sunday afternoon at Soldier Field, and they still haven’t won there since 2007. They turned the ball over three times, couldn’t get off of the field on third down, and had multiple misfires on special teams as well.

The Vikings allowed the Bears to convert 11 of 19 third down attempts and Chicago held the ball for more than 37 minutes. Minnesota also converted just one of three red-zone opportunities into scores and missed a field goal attempt.

Minnesota’s offense was limited to just 258 total yards, and while it did score the first points of the game, Chicago responded by scoring the next 25 to put the game away before halftime.

The defeat didn't help Minnesota's playoff chances, but the Vikings are still in the mix for a Wild Card berth. At this point, the Packers are in line for one Wild Card slot, while the Vikings and a pair of other 6-5 teams are battling it out for the second slot.
