Titans fire Chris Palmer, promote Dowell Loggains to offensive coordinator

The Tennessee Titans have fired offensive coordinator Chris Palmer, according to Jim Wyatt of The Tennessean. Palmer was in his second season as Tennessee's offensive coordinator. The Titans promoted Dowell Loggains to fill the position for the team's final five games. Loggains was in his third season as the quarterbacks coach, and in his fifth year on staff in Tennessee. He now takes the reins of an offense that is 27th in the league in rushing and 27th in the league in passing.

Owner Bud Adams expressed frustration with the coaching staff in early November, and that was momentarily quelled after a blowout win over the Dolphins. But the Titans struggled out of their bye week, falling to a then one-win Jaguars team on Sunday. One day later, Palmer was let go.

Palmer has bounced around the league over the past two decades in a variety of roles, mostly on the offensive side of the ball. He was the head coach of the Cleveland Browns for two seasons after they returned as an expansion team in 1999. He also had seven years of experience as an offensive coordinator with both the Texans and Jaguars.

At 4-7, the Titans have five games remaining to evaluate Loggains, as well as head coach Mike Munchak. It won't get any easier on the offense, as they next host the Houston Texans and one of the league's top defenses.
