Ben Roethlisberger injury: ‘There’s always a chance I can play,’ Steelers QB says

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger said “there’s always a chance” that he can play.

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger said that "there's always a chance" that he could play on Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens. Roethlisberger said they'd re-evaluate his shoulder after Thursday's practice.

The Steelers quarterback dislocated a rib and sprained his right shoulder in a 16-13 Week 10 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs and has missed Pittsburgh's last two games. Byron Leftwich and Charlie Batch have started in Roethlisberger's place and the Steelers have lost both games without their starting signal-caller.

Roethlisberger said the biggest hurdle to getting back on the the field is not pain, but ability. He wants to make sure he can put enough “zip” on the ball to get it where needs it to go. Roethlisberger said that although the pain is getting better, there was still pain and a lack of arm strength at Wednesday’s practice.

He said that the Pittsburgh training staff have “juiced up” his shoulder pads, adding more padding and Kevlar to help protect the sprained shoulder should Roethlisberger be able to play on Sunday. If Roethlisberger is a no-go, Batch will get the start.
