Ben Roethlisberger injury: Steelers QB out Week 13 vs. Ravens

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will not be playing in Sunday’s contest against the Baltimore Ravens.

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will not be playing in Sunday's game against the Baltimore Ravens, according to a report by Albert Breer of NFL.com.

Citing a source close to the situation, Breer has learned that the Steelers' quarterback will be unable to play in Week 13 due to continuing issues with his ribs and the sprain in his throwing shoulder. Roethlisberger originally sustained the injuries in Week 10 against the Kansas City Chiefs and was forced to the leave the game. He has not played since.

According to reports from earlier in the week, Roethlisberger’s status was going to be determined based upon his arm strength more so than his ability to deal with the pain. Mark Kabloy of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported that if he were to play, he would wear extra padding (which included a layer of Kevlar), to protect the area around his heart and ribs.

With Roethlisberger unavailable against Baltimore, Charlie Batch is expected to assume the role of starting quarterback for a second consecutive week.
