Sean Payton plans to stay with Saints, according to report

Sean Payton says he plans on staying with the New Orleans Saints in 2013.

Sean Payton says he "absolutely plans" on returning to the New Orelans Saints in 2013, according to Jay Glazer of FoxSports.com.

Payton’s statement to Glazer came after the NFL voided his contract extension that would have kept him in New Orleans through 2015. Without an extension. Payton is a free agent heading into the off-season.

The Saints opened the season with four straight losses and are 2-5 after eight weeks without Payton. Payton is currently serving a one-year suspension after an NFL investigation revealed that New Orleans had a bounty system in place for opposing players.

Without Payton, the team is last in rushing yards and statistically one of the worst defenses in the league against the pass and run.

Despite Payton's intentions to return to New Orleans, there's speculation around the league that he would receive significant interest from other teams, specifically the Dallas Cowboys, where he served as an assistant from 2003 to 2005.
