Cowboys vs. Falcons: Unpredictable and unbeaten collide in Atlanta

Dallas looks to end Atlanta’s winning streak.

The unbeaten Falcons enter Sunday's game against the Cowboys with an unbeaten record -- 7-0. Four of the Falcons seven wins have been within just one score and the 4.5 point line on the game (in favor of the Falcons) suggests another close one is coming.

SUNDAY SUNDAY SUNDAY A graphical preview of Cowboys vs. Falcons

The unpredictable Cowboys

The best way to describe the Cowboys is inconsistent. When they're on, they're a top 10 team in the NFL. But far too often they're inconsistent, giving up silly turnovers and not maximizing the weapons on offense like Jason Witten and Miles Austin. SB Nation's Blogging The Boys says that's the problem right now -- it's impossible to know which Cowboys team you're getting each week.

It has been a bit of a train-wreck for Romo, but it’s not all on him. He’s definitely made his share of bad plays this year, some interceptions that were truly his fault. But his receiving corps hasn’t helped out at all. They’ve run wrong routes, dropped passes, and tipped others up in the air for picks. There have been a combination of things going wrong this year and Romo is caught up in it. There’s every possibility he could straighten it out for the stretch run of the season, but it’s impossible to know. The Cowboys offense is totally unpredictable right now.

The Cowboys need to develop some consistency. Fast starts usually help with that.

Falcons expect to win this game

The mindset of a team matters and Atlanta is at an all-time confidence high right now. SB Nation’s The Falcoholic runs a weekly pick’em for the NFC South and every Falcons blogger picked Atlanta to win.

The Cowboys valiantly fought back against the Giants this past Sunday after Tony Romo made his best effort to give the game away in the first quarter. DeMarco Murray likely won't play, and Felix Jones, if he even suits up, shouldn't scare Mike Nolan's defense. It's looking like another W for the Dirty Birds.

Falcons are favored but history is on the Cowboys side

The Falcons are 7-0, looking to make it 8-0 and go through half the schedule perfect. But history says the Cowboys very well could spoil the unbeaten party.

In 1991, a reeling but up-and-coming Cowboys squad went to Washington and beat an 11-0 Redskins team; in 2006, in Tony Romo’s fourth career start, they defeated the 9-0 Colts 21-14; in 2009, a teetering 8-5 Dallas team traveled into a hostile New Orleans Superdome and saved its season with a 24-17 victory over the 13-0 Saints.
