Doctors for Indianapolis Colts' head coach Chuck Pagano have declared that his cancer is in remission after the first round of chemotherapy treatments, according to Sheri Rudavsky of the the Indy Star.

A bone marrow aspirate test did not reveal any evidence of the disease, causing the doctors to declare Pagano’s cancer in remission. However, remission does not mean that the illness has been cured. Due to the nature of the disease and its tendency to recur following the conclusion of treatment, Pagano must still undergo three rounds of chemotherapy.

Dr. Larry Cripe spoke on the remission, saying:

“We need to keep going and we will not be able to use the word ‘cure’ for four or five years.”

Pagano was diagnosed with acute promyelocytic leukemia in late September. Per reports, Pagano has excelled in every step of his treatment so far.

Sunday, Pagano left the hospital to visit his Indianapolis Colts team as they played the Miami Dolphins. After the Colts won, Pagano delivered a touching speech that transcended the game of football, revealing the valiant character of a man fighting for his life and the motivation of the team rallied around him.
