Calvin Johnson’s injuries include nerve damage

Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson says he suffered nerve damage against the Minnesota Vikings in September, which caused him to have difficulty gripping the ball. It’s just another injury on the long list of them Johnson has suffered in 2012.

Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson has struggled through a number of injuries this year, and he says that nerve damage is one of them. Johnson says he originally suffered the injury on Sep. 30th against the Minnesota Vikings, when he was hit hard several times. Chad Greenway was fined $21,000 for a helmet-to-helmet hit on Johnson that reportedly gave him a concussion.

Johnson has muddled through injuries to a finger, ankle, and left knee, as well as a concussion and nerve damage, so far in 2012. The nerve damage has caused problems for Johnson’s ability to grip the football, as he’s experienced shooting pain in his arms as a result. However, Johnson says that he’s starting to feel better, and he should be good to go for the Lions’ rematch against the Vikings on Sunday. That said, he has not practiced in two weeks.

Through eight games this season, Johnson has 48 catches for 767 yards. However, he only has one touchdown.
