Sean Weatherspoon injury: Falcons LB will miss another game

The Atlanta star will miss at least one more week with an ankle injury.

Kevin C. Cox

The Falcons will be without star LB Sean Weatherspoon for at least one more week, as head coach Mike Smith ruled him out for their game against the Saints on Sunday.

Weatherspoon injured his ankle in their 30-17 win over the Eagles two weeks ago and did not play in their 19-13 victory over the Cowboys last week.

A 6’2 245 OLB, he has been a key contributor to the Falcons since he being selected No. 19 overall out of Missouri in 2010. In seven games in 2012, he had 52 total tackles, 3 sacks, 2 pass deflections and 1 forced fumble.

An All-American LB who played all over the field in his time in college, his athleticism and ability to make plays in space could be sorely missed this Sunday, when Atlanta takes on Drew Brees and the high-powered Saints offense in New Orleans.

Akeem Dent, a second-year LB out of Georgia who had 7 total tackles and 1 pass deflection against Dallas, will likely get the start in Weatherspoon's place for the second consecutive week.
