The Kansas City Chiefs have announced that their Week 13 game against the Carolina Panthers will be played as scheduled on Sunday afternoon. The Chiefs and Panthers are set to play at 1 p.m. ET at Arrowhead Stadium, a little more than 24 hours after the horrific murder-suicide involving Jovan Belcher. The Chiefs statement on the decision to proceed as planned:

“After discussions between the league office, Head Coach Romeo Crennel and Chiefs team captains, the Chiefs advised the NFL that it will play tomorrow’s game vs. the Carolina Panthers at its originally scheduled time.”
Just hours after news of the tragedy, the Panthers were told to continue their scheduled Saturday travel plans to Kansas City for the game.
Saturday morning, Belcher shot his girlfriend at a residence close to Arrowhead Stadium, and then proceeded to the Chiefs facilities where he took his own life in the players parking lot.
Chiefs players were scheduled to arrive at the facility for team meetings Saturday morning, but they were told to go home as news of the tragedy surfaced.
