Chiefs vs. Browns 2012: No letdown, Browns roll over Kansas City

The Browns put to rest any talk of a letdown on Sunday as they trounced the Kansas City Chiefs, 30-7.

The Cleveland Browns entered Sunday as a seven-point favorite over the Kansas City Chiefs and took care of business with a 30-7 win, extending their win streak to three games.

The Chiefs put a scare into the Browns early with an 80-yard touchdown run from Jamaal Charles on the first play from scrimmage. But with a 7-0 lead only 12 seconds into the game, the Kansas City offense was done, as the Chiefs did not score another point.

Cleveland took control of the game following the Chiefs score, struggling on offense but compensating with defense and special teams, including a 93-yard punt return touchdown from Travis Benjamin to give the Browns a 10-3 lead.

Chris Pokorny of SB Nation’s Cleveland Browns blog, Dawgs By Nature, writes that although some fans were scared of dropping the supposedly easy game against Kansas City, the Browns left no doubt as to who was the better team.

Fans were nervous that there would be a letdown. After all, it’s not very often that the Browns win three consecutive games, or are favored by a touchdown at home. Although things were a little tense after how things started in the first quarter, in the end, the Browns more than delivered with a 30-7 victory.

The win is not simply a moral victory either, as usually is the case with the Browns towards the end of the season. Pokorny writes that at 5-8, the Browns still have an outside chance at a postseason berth. They'll look to extend their win streak to four games against the Washington Redskins next Sunday.
