Eagles vs. Buccaneers, Week 14: Philadelphia fans impressed by Nick Foles in comeback win

Nick Foles’ strong performance in a 23-21 come-from-behind victory over the Buccaneers has Eagles fans feeling a little better about their future.

The Philadelphia Eagles were in danger of losing their ninth straight game on Sunday, trailing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 21-10 after a Doug Martin touchdown run with just over seven minutes left. But then rookie quarterback Nick Foles went to work, leading the Eagles on two long touchdown drives to steal a 23-21 win.

Foles played well all game long, and SB Nation’s Eagles blog Bleeding Green Nation took note of his strong performance:

All told, Foles went 32-51 for 381 yards and 3 TDs (1 rushing). On a day where he had zero running game, it was a pretty fantastic performance from the rookie. When you add in that it was on the road against a team fighting for the playoffs, you can’t help but be impressed and more hopeful about the future.

And make no mistake about it, the development of Foles is more important than getting the 3rd overall pick instead of the 5th or 6th. This is not a year where you want to take a QB in the top 10 and if Foles really can be a solution, that’s a huge head start for next season.

Foles has shown quite a bit of promise in relief of injured quarterback Michael Vick. The rookie has not thrown an interception in the last three weeks, and completed 66 percent of his passes in the process. Foles' efforts may make the pending decision about Vick's future in Philadelphia a little bit easier.

Foles and the Eagles offense will face a tough challenge next week when the Cincinnati Bengals visit Lincoln Financial Field. The Bengals entered Week 14 with the seventh-ranked defense in the NFL in terms of yards allowed per game.
