Rams vs. Bills 2012: Buffalo’s continued inability to win ‘frustrating’

The Buffalo Bills lost a game they essentially had to win, stumbling offensively in a 15-12 loss to the .500 St. Louis Rams.

The Buffalo Bills only scored 12 points, losing late to the St. Louis Rams after pitching a shutout in the first half.

Ryan Fitzpatrick played an alright game, completing 25 of 33 passes for 247 yards, but the team couldn't get anything going on the ground as C.J. Spiller and Fred Jackson had just 3.1 yards on 16 carries just a week after combining for 186 yards on the ground. All in all, the Bills got two field goals and a touchdown, shanking the extra point. The Rams were just as bad, with Sam Bradford completing under half of his passes and with the running backs performing even worse than Buffalo's, but they got points when it mattered, with Bradford connecting on a touchdown to Brandon GIbson with under a minute remaining.

Bills blogger Matt Warren of Buffalo Rumblings credited some unfortunately timed mistakes for the team’s downfall in his postgame recap:

On offense, Ryan Fitzpatrick absorbed relentless big hits to cut through the St. Louis Rams defense. It wasn't enough, as a late touchdown pass sank the Bills on Sunday. Buffalo had opportunities to blow the game open but a Fred Jackson fumble, penalty on a Stephon Gilmore interception return, and botched extra point took points off the board.

At 5-8, the Bills aren’t mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, but its pretty bleak.
