Lions vs. Packers 2012: Green Bay enjoyed ‘balanced offensive attack’

On a snowy night in Lambeau Field, the Packers moved one step closer to an NFC North title by beating the Lions.

The Green Bay Packers started off slow and looked like they were ripe for an upset at home on Sunday night against the Detroit Lions.

Then they remembered they’re the Packers, the Lions remembered they’re the Lions, and Green Bay won, 27-20.

Green Bay did a masterful job as the game went on of mixing up the play calls, keeping Detroit’s dangerous pass rush at bay. Over at ACME Packing Company, Kevin McCauley talks about the job Mike McCarthy and his team did:

The second half was much different than the first, as the Packers managed to sustain drives with a very balanced offensive attack. Aaron Rodgers finished the game with 24 passing attempts, and was sacked three times. He was also responsible for three uncalled running plays out of the Packers’ 25, and the 31-22 play calling split will have been around what most fans are hoping for on a game-to-game basis from Green Bay.

Despite missing Clay Matthews and Charles Woodson again, the Packers defense was able to hold Matthew Stafford and company down for most of the game. It was a credit to Dom Capers, who continually confused Stafford and had him throwing into double coverages quite a few times.

Now, Green Bay has a golden opportunity in front of it with a contest against the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field coming up, with the winner left to feel great about its division chances.
