Week 15 opening lines: RGIII’s injury is screwing everything up

Week 15 opening lines reflect the changing fortunes of some alleged contenders in the NFL. The Giants are a PK in New Orleans and the Bears are home dogs to Green Bay. See where your favorite team opened.

USA TODAY Sports

Favorites bullied the underdogs in Week 14, leading to a profitable week for the betting public.

Overall, the chalk went 10-6 ATS based on the consensus closing point spreads at OddsShark.com. Important favorites like the Giants, 49ers and Packers all covered and then the Patriots demolished the Texans on Monday night to put a profitable cherry on top.

Week 15 opening lines see those Patriots favored big at home against the visiting 49ers as New England gets back-to-back tests. If they beat San Francisco easily, you have to think Super Bowl 47 odds will tilt heavily in their favor.

The Patriots opened as 7-point favorites. Only Miami (-7.5 at home to Jacksonville) and the aforementioned Texans (-9 at home to the Colts) are bigger chalk.

The uncertainty around Robert Griffin III’s leg injury has kept the Washington-Cleveland game off the board early in the week. The Browns come off an impressive win over Kansas City and stand to be a small home favorite here, especially if RG3 is ruled out.

Two critical games in the NFC see tight spreads and could clarify the playoff picture. The New York Giants, fresh off a thrashing of New Orleans, will try to do the same to Atlanta. The Falcons have come unfeathered a bit in recent weeks and this game opened as a PK.

In Chicago, the Bears opened as 3-point home underdogs to rival Green Bay.

The week kicks off with the Eagles hosting the Bengals on Thursday night. Philly rallied for two scores in the final minutes to upset Tampa last week while Cincy lost to an emotional Dallas team that was playing with thoughts of one dead teammate and another jailed teammate after the drunk-driving crash last week.

Dallas opened as a PK at Pittsburgh.

The Monday nighter is another PK, but not nearly as interesting as the Giants-Falcons game. The Jets visit the Titans in a game that could vault the woeful Jets back into playoff contention.
