The New York Jets plan to sign wide receiver Braylon Edwards if he clears waivers on Tuesday afternoon, according to a report by Brian Costello of the New York Post.

Edwards was waived by the Seattle Seahawks on Dec. 4.

The decision to acquire the 29-year-old receiver comes a week removed from his public criticisms of the franchise. Edwards took to Twitter and defended Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez by stating that his struggles this season are due to the "idiots calling the shots." Edwards later apologized for his outburst.

Edwards spent two seasons with the Jets over the course of the 2009 and 2010 seasons. Acquired via trade from the Cleveland Browns, Edwards recorded 88 receptions for 1,445 yards and 11 touchdowns in 28 games played (26 starts).

Following the 2010 season, Edwards signed a one-year contract with the San Francisco 49ers before being released by the team after nine games.

In 10 games with Seattle this season, Edwards has recorded eight receptions for 74 yards and one touchdown.
