Braylon Edwards claimed by Jets

The New York Jets claimed wide receiver Braylon Edwards off waivers on Tuesday.

US PRESSWIRE

The New York Jets claimed wide receiver Braylon Edwards off waivers on Tuesday. Edwards was waived by the Seattle Seahawks from the injured reserve list earlier in the day.

Edwards spent the 2009 and 2010 seasons with the Jets, logging 88 catches for 1,445 yards and 11 touchdowns in two seasons with New York. This season with the Seahawks, Edwards only has eight receptions for 74 yards and one touchdown. Edwards has played with four teams over his nine year NFL career, with his best numbers coming during his third season with the Cleveland Browns in 2007.

The Jets passing game has struggled this season as New York averages only 186.8 passing yards per game, third worst in the NFL. Also, the Jets might have a need at receiver as rookie Stephen Hill sprained his LCL during the Jets victory over the Jaguars in Week 14 and is questionable.

Just one week ago Edwards called the Jets front office “idiots” on Twitter, but it does not seem to have hurt his reputation with the team.

New York waived running back Kahlil Bell to make room for Edwards on the roster. Bell appeared in five games for the Jets this season and gained 45 total yards.
