When Dallas Cowboys defensive lineman Josh Brent crashed his Mercedes, killing his teammate and friend Jerry Brown Jr. in the process, he was driving with a blood alcohol level more than twice the legal limit, according to a report from The Dallas Morning News on Thursday.

Cowboys lineman Josh Brent allegedly had a blood alcohol level more than twice the legal limit when he crashed his vehicle and killed his teammate and friend Jerry Brown Jr. last Saturday morning.

Brent’s BAC after he, according to the report, refused a breathalyzer test at the scene of the crash and failed on-site sobriety tests, came back as 0.18.
After the fatal accident, Brent was charged with intoxication manslaughter, a charge that could carry with it a maximum sentence of 20 years. The 25-year-old Brent, in his third professional season with the Cowboys, was placed on the team’s reserve/non-football illness list this week.
According to the report, the prosecution will now be fact-checking further on the night which led to Brent’s deadly accident, which means going through monetary transactions, locations where the two had been drinking, and if anyone else was aware of the situation prior to the crash.
