Bengals vs. Eagles, Week 15: ‘Your 2012 Philadelphia Eagles in a nutshell’

The Philadelphia Eagles have made a habit of shooting themselves in the foot all year long, but never more than Thursday night, when they committed five turnovers and somehow blocked their own punt in a 34-13 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.

The Philadelphia Eagles actually took a lead into the second half against the Cincinnati Bengals, but collapsed in a turnover-filled mess of a second half, losing by a score of 34-13, the team's 10th loss this season.

The Bengals didn't exactly play the best game: they gained only 3.4 yards per play, lost two fumbles, committed 11 penalties, and allowed the Eagles to sack Andy Dalton six times. But they had no choice but to win in a game Philadelphia messed up in every conceivable way possible. After going into the locker room with a 13-10 lead, the Eagles' offense was barely even able to stay on the field long enough to punt, committing four turnovers in five possessions.

For Eagles blogger Jason Brewer of Bleeding Green Nation, there was nothing to do but laugh as he wrote up his postgame recap:

Of all the comical performances put in by the Eagles this season, the third quarter of this game has to take the cake. In the span of 4 possessions, Bryce Brown fumbled a handoff that was returned for a TD. Clay Harbor fumbled after making a catch and Cedric Thornton fumbled... wait for it... a kickoff. Yes, he's a DT and he attempted to catch a kickoff. That particular fumble put the Eagles atop the NFL in the turnover category.

It was that kind of night.

Philadelphia's rookie skill players had a rough night: Nick Foles completed less than 50 percent of his passes, throwing a pick, a touchdown, and giving up a fumble with Michael Vick sitting out despite being healthy. Bryce Brown continued to have issues holding onto the ball, fumbling and barely gaining more than 2 yards per carry. Bleeding Green Nation was able to capture the only positives from an ugly game by a hopeless team:

Bottom line from this one is that if you were one of the people worried that Andy Reid might actually be back or that the Eagles might screw up a top 5 draft pick... Worry no more.

At 4-10, the Eagles have lost their most games since 2005, with a pair of games remaining.
