Jay Cutler injury: Bears QB has sprained MCL

Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler has suffered a sprained MCL, but Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports that the injury is not serious enough to keep Cutler out against Green Bay Packers in Week 15.

Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler has suffered another MCL injury, according to Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune. The thought of another MCL sprain for Cutler is enough to send most Bears fans into horrific flashbacks of the 2010 NFC championship game loss to the Green Bay Packers, where Cutler left with an MCL injury and got pounded in the media for it, but this time the MCL issue is not nearly as bad.

According to Biggs, a team source told him “it’s not remotely as serious as the MCL injury that knocked him out of the second half of the NFC championship game.”

The team listed neck/knee under the injury category for Cutler in the official injury report, but he is still expected to play on Sunday when the Bears host the Packers. He engaged in limited participation during practice on Thursday, and Biggs says Cutler is expected to participate fully on Friday.

Lovie Smith had this to say about his starting QB: “He practiced without any trouble at all. ... He should be fine.”

The Packers can clinch the NFC North title with a win over the Bears in Week 15, so it’s a huge game for Chicago. Lovie Smith is on the hot seat now that the Bears have turned a sterling 7-1 start into an 8-5 season on the brink of disaster.

The Bears currently hold the sixth and final spot in the NFC playoff bracket.
