Russell Wilson Offensive Rookie of the Year nomination post

Though his rookie season has not gone unnoticed, perhaps an early thrashing of the Bills will make it more unununnoticed.

A lot of people talk about Robert Griffin III and the amazing job that the Redskins have done to get into the lead in the NFC East, though Washington won today with Kirk Cousins at quarterback.

A lot of attention is given to phenom Andrew Luck and the Colts' comeback from worst record in 2011 to an almost certain playoff berth in 2012. Most people figure one of those two players will win the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award.

For your consideration: Russell Wilson.

A week after the Seahawks beat the Cardinals 58-0 to win for the fourth time in five games, Wilson has taken his game international as Seattle is putting a similar beatdown on the Bills in Canada. Wilson is the first quarterback in franchise history to rush for three touchdowns in a game and he has done that in the first half. For the second straight week, Wilson might give way to Matt Flynn simply for being too good.

That’s somewhat surprising considering that this is the player said to be “too short” to play NFL quarterback and was taken in the third round, more than 70 picks after Luck and RG3, and threw only five touchdowns and six interceptions in his first five games.

Now, it would be surprising if Wilson does not have a good shot at being named the best rookie in the league. He has 16 TD and three INT over his last eight and a half games, with those three rushing touchdowns today.

And just like Luck and RG3, he’s in a great position to lead his team to the playoffs as the Seahawks, now leading 31-14 over Buffalo, are on their way to their fifth win in six games and a 9-5 record, leading the NFC Wild Card race.

Luck and RG3 are amazing rookies, but please do not overlook Wilson. (Height reference.)
