Giants vs. Falcons 2012: New York ‘won’t defend Super Bowl title’ after ugly loss

The New York Giants are reeling after an embarrassing 34-0 loss to the Atlanta Falcons.

In a rematch of one of last year's NFC Wild Card games, the New York Giants laid an egg in an ugly 34-0 loss at the hands of the Atlanta Falcons. The Giants were blitzed from the get-go, falling behind 14-0 after one quarter and never recovering.

With the loss, the Giants now sit at 8-6 and in a three-way tie for first place in the NFC East with the Washington Redskins and Dallas Cowboys. However, when factoring in the tiebreakers, New York is in third. And thanks to the catastrophe on Sunday, Ed Valentine of SB Nation's Giants blog Big Blue View says the Giants will be lucky to make it to the postseason to have a shot at defending their title:

The New York Giants won’t defend their Super Bowl title. They will, in fact, be incredibly fortunate to simply make the NFC Playoffs.

I know the Giants’ late-season history, and you do, too. If, however, you can find a way to rationalize the embarrassing performance by the Giants Sunday in a 34-0 loss to the Atlanta Falcons and tell me how this is a championship-caliber team I am all ears.

The Giants will look to bounce back from this embarrassment when they head to Baltimore to take on the sliding Ravens. While the Ravens have lost three straight, winning in Baltimore is usually never an easy task, so New York will have to come to play in order to grab a needed victory.
