Broncos vs. Ravens 2012: Chris Harris’ interception was a game-changer

The Denver Broncos dominated the Baltimore Ravens, a rout that was sparked by Chris Harris’ 97-yard pick six.

USA TODAY Sports

The Denver Broncos cruised to the team's ninth-straight victory on Sunday with a 34-17 beatdown of the Baltimore Ravens on the road, in a game that wasn't nearly as close as the score suggests.

The Ravens managed just 56 yards rushing and 222 net yards as the Broncos defense clamped down in the second and third quarters, allowing Denver to build a 31-3 lead before Baltimore awoke in the fourth quarter. The Ravens had a chance to grasp momentum in the final seconds of the first half yet quarterback Joe Flacco threw a 97-yard pick-six to Chris Harris and completely changing the complexion of the game.

The Broncos added two more touchdowns in the third quarter on a day when Peyton Manning wasn't at his best yet didn't need to be, as running back Knowshon Moreno rushed for 118 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries.

Bronco Mike of Mile High Report focuses on the big game-changing play in the first half, however and praises the play of Harris:

Chris Harris pick 6 (along with being the longest INT return for a TD in Broncos History) was the quintessential game changer. Instead of giving up a TD after dominating all half and going into halftime with a 10-7 lead.....and Baltimore getting the ball first, we go up 17-0. That was the all game right there and it was beautiful. Harris is the most skilled guy we have at jumping routes. Champ will still jump the quick slant, but Harris’ recognition has been spot on for weeks now.

The Broncos now hold on to the No. 2 spot in the AFC and will continue to fight for home-field advantage next week against the Cleveland Browns.
