Seahawks vs. Bills, Week 15: Buffalo ‘mercifully’ eliminated from playoff contention

Another Buffalo Bills season has been rendered meaningless, as the team was eliminated from playoff contention after a humiliating defeat at the hands of the Seattle Seahawks.

Rick Stewart

The Buffalo Bills were pounded into submission by the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, falling 50-17 in a game that got out of hand quickly. The Bills' rush defense was an absolute sieve, giving up 270 yards on the ground. Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson accounted for 92 of those yards and finished with three rushing touchdowns on the day, all of them coming in the first half.

The Bills’ disastrous performance officially axed the very slim playoff hopes the team was holding onto, which was not all that disappointing to Brian Galliford of SB Nation’s Bills blog Buffalo Rumblings:

Earlier this week, GM Buddy Nix said that he believed the team was a few plays away from being 8-5, and that they’re close to being a playoff contender. He is wrong, at least on that last point. They were 5-8 entering the game, and after a completely uninspired performance with little to no pride to speak of, they’re 5-9, officially (and mercifully) eliminated from playoff contention, and look to be steeped in the same losing culture that has been prevalent at One Bills Drive for the past decade-plus. This team is not anything other than pathetic.

Buffalo has not reached the playoffs since going 11-5 in 1999. And in that postseason, the Bills to the Tennessee Titans on the infamous "Music City Miracle" play. Since then, Buffalo has had just one winning season, when they went 9-7 in 2004.

The Bills will begin to play out the string when they travel to Miami to take on the Dolphins in Week 16.
