Steelers reinstate RB Rashard Mendenhall

After a couple of rough weeks, Pittsburgh has decided to give the veteran tailback one more chance.

After suspending running back Rashard Mendenhall for their Week 15 showdown with the Cowboys, the Pittsburgh Steelers have reinstated him. According to Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun, Pittsburgh has announced Mendenhall will be allowed to rejoin the team, and that they'll have one day to make a corresponding roster move.

The 25-year-old tailback was originally suspended for not showing up to Heinz Field in Week 14 after being told he would not suit up for the game. In four games this season, Mendenhall has carried the ball 34 times for 113 yards and no touchdowns.

No word has come regarding Mendenhall's role with the team moving forward. He was once the Steelers' starter in the backfield, although he lost that job to Jonathan Dwyer earlier this month. This upset Mendenhall, and some reports indicated that he and the coaching staff had very few conversations leading up to his demotion to Dwyer.

Pittsburgh is set to face the Bengals next Sunday in a game with big playoff implications.
