San Francisco 49ers at Seattle Seahawks: betting odds, pick, trends, preview

Seattle is a true beast at home and the Seahawks vs 49ers odds reflect this reality. At 14-2 ATS, Seattle bettors feel comfortable on the Week 16 odds menu, according to Odds Shark.

USA TODAY Sports

The Seattle Seahawks own the league’s most dominant home betting trends, riding a 14-2 ATS mark into the crucial Week 16 division game with San Francisco.

They will put their 6-0 SU and ATS home record to the test this Sunday when they host the 49ers at CenturyLink Field. Seattle was a 1-point home underdog, although many sportsbooks tracked by OddsShark.com had the game as a PK.

Seattle’s defense has been among the league’s strongest all season, allowing just 15.6 points per game; but over the last two weeks the offense has been the story in putting up 50+ points both weeks. Granted, those games were against Arizona and Buffalo, but Russell Wilson continues to develop into a reliable pro and Marshawn Lynch is one of the best backs in the game today.

Seattle is 5-1 SU and ATS over its last six games and is 9-5 SU and 10-4 ATS on the season.

Is there anyone left second-guessing Jim Harbaugh’s decision to replace Alex Smith at quarterback with second-year quarterback Colin Kaepernick? Kaepernick proved his meddle on the biggest stage last week by going in to New England and leading the 49ers to a 41-34 win over the Patriots.

San Francisco is 4-1 SU and ATS in their last five games with Kaepernick under center, and has already picked up solid road wins in New Orleans and New England; will the 49ers add another this week? San Francisco is 10-3-1 SU and 9-5 ATS in 2012.

Jim Harbaugh used to have Pete Carroll’s number in college when he coached Stanford and Carroll coached USC, and that seems to have carried over into the NFL as well. San Francisco is 4-0 SU in its last four games against Seattle (3-0 SU under Harbaugh), but Seattle did cover the spread in both losses last season.

Seattle is 9-0 ATS in its last nine home games and 14-2 ATS in its last 16 home games.

As the spread indicates, this should be a close and outstanding game. While the 49ers may be the slightly better team, the fact that they are coming in off of such an emotional and intense game on a short week while Seattle is coming in off of two cakewalks should mean that the Seahawks have more energy.

Plus, Seattle’s home advantage cannot be overstated. Look for the Seahawks to pull off the upset.
