Cardinals vs. Jets: New York benches Mark Sanchez, wins

Although the Jets defense probably deserves much of the credit after keeping the Arizona Cardinals out of the end zone all day, only allowing a pair of field goals on drives where the Cardinals already had good field position. But most of the hubbub will probably surround McElroy, who led the team on its only scoring drive after being shut out for three quarters. Gang Green Nation tempered their expectations, saying that it was important not to overreact to a single possession, but still celebrated McElroy’s performance in a post titled “Long Live the McElroy Era”:

What’s good for McElroy, of course, is bad for Sanchez. Gang Green Nation didn’t mince words regarding the player who has started at quarterback for the Jets since being drafted in the first round four seasons ago, calling for the end of Sanchez’ time at quarterback after his three-pick game in their postgame recap:

The Cards went on to lose 7-6 in one of the worst games of the season.

Fantasy Impact: Pity Fitz, as he’s been one of the biggest fantasy disappointments of the season, and almost none of it is his fault. The Cardinals’ abysmal QB situation and O-line play have tanked the entire season.

Fantasy Impact: Greene has been an uninspiring fantasy play all season, so the few owners who still own him will be happy with the century yards.

Sanchez was removed by Jets head coach Rex Ryan after completing less than half of his passes and throwing three interceptions.

With the win, the Jets improve to 5-7 on the season, while the Cardinals continue their slide to 4-8.

2011’s seventh round pick, McElroy has no regular season experience at the NFL level. This preseason, he played in two games, completing an impressive 69.6% of his passes, throwing for one touchdown en route to a 99.7 preseason quarterback rating. Judging by the cheers from fans in New York, it looks like they’re ready for a change ... any change.

Sanchez has not looked comfortable in the pocket at all and clearly isn’t going through his progressions.

Tebow has 39 yards passing and 87 yards rushing with zero touchdowns on the season.

Nobody is probably rushing to change their fantasy lineups with Tebow out this week.

Both head coaches, Arizona’s Ken Whisenhunt and New York’s Rex Ryan, are on their own respective hot seats, and a strong finish to either of their regular seasons could help towards keeping them on their team’s sidelines.

Once one of the team’s stronger points, New York’s defense ranks 19th in the league in yards allowed, giving up an average of 354.1 yards per game. Additionally, their average of 26.4 points allowed per game ranks 26th in the NFL.
