Percy Harvin’s relationship ‘deteriorating’ with Vikings

Amid swirling rumors about the nature of Percy Harvin being placed on injured reserve, a new report puts the star receiver and team at odds.

The relationship between wide receiver Percy Harvin and the Minnesota Vikings is strained. A new report claims that the ligament team the star receiver sustained on November 11th could lead to both sides parting ways at the end of the 2012 season.

Rumors swelled post-injury that Percy Harvin's absence from the organization centered more on his problems with the front office, rather than his ankle injury. A notion Tom Pelissero put to bed Thursday on 1500 ESPN in Minnesota:

“In reality, according to a source with knowledge of the situation, discussions already were underway with Harvin’s agent, Joel Segal, about making a decision both sides believed was in the best interest of the player and the team based strictly on the injury.”

Percy Harvin returned home to Florida to continue his rehabilitation, rather than stay close to the Vikings organization. In his absence, the team have leaned more on running back Adrian Peterson, and to great effect.

The hit to the passing game is noticeable in Harvin's absence. Despite missing the last seven games, he is still the team's leading receiver with 677 yards. Without his No. 1 receiver, second-year quarterback Christian Ponder's quarterback rating has fallen from 78.3 to 70.4. Ponder has also struggled moving the ball, falling from 200 yards per game to 144 yards.

The Vikings are moving forward without Percy Harvin, and the receiver is moving forward without the Vikings. Both sides will meet in January where a final decision on his future will be made.
