Rob Gronkowski injury: Patriots TE out this week, according to report

Rob Gronkowski will reportedly be unavailable for Week 16.

Jim Rogash

New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski will not be available to play in Week 16's meeting with the Jacksonville Jaguars, according to a report by Shalise Young of the Boston Globe on Friday afternoon.

Gronkowski has not played since breaking his forearm against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 11. The 23-year-old tight end sustained the injury while blocking on a New England extra point attempt. Gronkowski registered seven receptions on the day for 137 yards and two touchdowns. The Patriots ultimately won the game by a final score of 59-24.

The initial prognosis on the injury was that he would miss anywhere from four-to-six weeks. As of Friday afternoon, he has missed the team’s last four games. If he is unable to play against Jacksonville, that will mark his fifth straight game missed.

Gronkowski returned to practice last Friday, which was the first time he had participated in activity since the injury.

According to a report from Adam Schefter of ESPN from Dec. 12, the Patriots have planned on having Gronkowski return in Week 17.
