Chargers vs. Jets game recap: Late surge gives San Diego a win

The Jets were in control in the first half, but the Chargers turned it around to pick up their sixth win of the year.

The San Diego Chargers used a big second half to leap past the New York Jets, 27-17, on Sunday.

The Chargers were down 14-10 at halftime, but two Philip Rivers touchdown passes and a field goal put them up 27-14 early in the fourth quarter.

San Diego improved to 6-9 with the win. The loss pushed the Jets down to 6-9.

The Jets controlled the first half. After the Chargers' Micheal Spurlock returned a punt 63 yards for a touchdown to kick off the game's scoring, Jets running back Shonn Greene rushed for back-to-back touchdowns in the first quarter. The scores put the Jets up, 14-7, to end the first.

Chargers kicker Nick Novak and Jets kicker Nick Folk each kicked one field goal to aid the scoring in the fourth quarter.

Fantasy studs and duds

Rivers was huge for the Chargers. He completed just 11 passes, but he threw for 165 yards and two touchdowns. He did not have an interception. Jackie Battle led the Chargers in rushing Sunday, but he only had 49 yards on 19 carries.

Greene only rushed for 38 yards, but he had two touchdowns -- which will make his fantasy owners happy. Greg McElroy didn't quite set himself apart from benched starter Mark Sanchez on Sunday. McElroy finished 14-for-24 for 185 yards and an interception.

Injury report

Chargers safety Brandon Taylor was carted off the field in the third quarter with a knee injury. He did not return to the game.

Jets wide receiver Chaz Schilens left the game with a knee injury. He did not return.

Did they cover?

The Jets were 2.5-point favorites, so they did not cover.
