NFL playoff picture: Texans loss opens door for Broncos

The Houston Texans had the opportunity to lock up a first round bye and home field advantage on Sunday, but failed to do that in a 23-6 loss to the Minnesota Vikings.

The Houston Texans came into the weekend with the opportunity to lock up the best record in the AFC, a first round bye and home field advantage. Now, in order for that to happen, they'll need some help.

With a 23-6 loss to the Minnesota Vikings, the Texans will now root for the Denver Broncos to lose their game. If the Broncos win, they will pull into a tie with Houston atop the AFC standings, leaving it all up to Week 17's games. De

The Broncos came into today looking to clinch a first-round bye, but they will be unable to do so because New England won its game.

Next week, Houston visits Indianapolis, while Denver hosts Kansas City. Though today’s action still is not complete, it’s important to note that the Texans own the tiebreaker over the Broncos. This means if Houston wins next week, it does not matter what the Broncos do; Houston would own the No. 1 seed in the AFC.
