Tim Tebow reportedly asked out of Jets offense

Tim Tebow reportedly told the Jets staff that he didn’t want to be a part of the team’s Wildcat package this week. He did not make an appearance on Sunday during the team’s loss to the Chargers.

Tim Tebow reportedly asked out of the New York Jets' Wildcat plays after he was passed over for Greg McElroy as the new starting quarterback, according to ESPN New York's Rich Cimini and Jane McManus. Tebow didn't play at all during the Jets' 27-17 loss to the San Diego Chargers on Sunday, but was dressed and active for the game. Wide receiver Jeremy Kerley took Tebow's place as the team's Wildcat quarterback.

Tebow has been the primary backup quarterback behind Mark Sanchez all season, but McElroy was announced as the new starter after Sanchez was benched last week against the Titans. Tebow made an appearance in that Tennessee game, but failed to impress. For the season, Tebow is 6-8 for 39 yards and has rushed for 102 yards. He has yet to score a touchdown either in the air or on the ground.

Stories about Tebow being frustrated over lack of playing time have come out periodically during his first season in New York. It seems likely that the team will part ways with him in the offseason, only one year after acquiring him from the Denver Broncos.
