Richard Seymour injury update: Raiders DT placed on IR

Oakland placed defense tackle Richard Seymour on injured reserve Thursday, ending his 2012 season a few days early.

After missing the previous seven games due to a hamstring injury, Raiders defensive tackle Richard Seymour will also miss the season finale after he was placed on injured reserve on Thursday.

After starting the first eight games of the year, Seymour has rarely practiced over the last seven weeks. He missed practice on Wednesday and Thursday this week, prompting the Raiders to place him on injured reserve. While the move ends Seymour’s 2012 season, it could also signal the end of his Raider career. After spending four seasons in Oakland, the 33-year-old Seymour will be a free agent this offseason.

Seymour finishes the season with 15 tackles and 3.0 sacks. The sacks are his lowest total since he finished with 1.5 sacks while playing nine games in 2007. With Seymour headed to injured reserve, the Raiders have an open spot on their 53-man roster. Steve Corkran of the Contra Costa Times reports the Raiders are likely to promote someone from their practice squad to fill the vacancy.
