With both their pass and run defense struggling all season, New Orleans set a mark of 6,797 yards allowed during the 2012 season. This beats the prior record, set by the Baltimore Colts in 1981, when the Colts allowed 6,793 yards. This season's iteration of the Saints' defense ranks in the bottom five in passing yards allowed and rushing yards allowed, all while allowing opposing quarterbacks to post an average rating of over 93.0 on the season.
Recent reports have Sean Payton agreeing to a five-year extension on his contract. Assuming that deal goes through, the Saints will hope to make a playoff push next year -- and get out from under the cloud of their bounty woes.
