The Cleveland Browns have chosen to part ways with general manager Tom Heckert following a 5-11 season, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. While serving as Cleveland's general manager, the Browns failed to post a winning season -- finishing with a 14-34 three-year record.

Arriving in Cleveland in 2009, Tom Heckert came from a strong personnel background for the Philadelphia Eagles. Helping to draft ten pro-bowlers for the Eagles, his ability to evaluate talent, paired with team president Mike Holmgren's team building was supposed to turn the Cleveland Browns around. In his three years at the helm the organization have drafted successfully, but it hasn't translated to wins on the field.

When Jimmy Haslam was approved as Cleveland’s new owner in October, and CEO Jimmy Haslam was installed, the writing was on the wall for a front-office shakeup. Mike Holmgren announced his retirement, and unsure about his future, Heckert held an improptu press conference mid-December to talk about his role with the Browns.

Rumors have swirled in recent weeks linking NFL Network analyst Michael Lombardi to the Cleveland Browns job. It remains to be seen whether Lombardi will be pegged for Tom Heckert’s spot, but ownership will hope that whoever the new general manager is, he’ll be able to turn the franchise around.
