Jets vs. Bills, Week 17: Buffalo fans preparing for change after season-ending win

The Buffalo Bills blew out the New York Jets in Week 17, but that likely won’t save Chan Gailey’s job.

Rick Stewart

The Buffalo Bills finished off their disappointing 2012 campaign on a high note, blowing out the New York Jets 28-9 on Sunday at Ralph Wilson Stadium. The Bills used a bunch of big plays to secure the victory, including a 66-yard touchdown reception by C.J. Spiller and a 20-yard interception return for a score by Bryan Scott.

While it was nice for the Bills to finish the season with a victory, it’s unlikely that it will be enough to save head coach Chan Gailey’s job. Buffalo’s 6-10 record marks the third losing season out of three under Gailey’s watch, and Brian Galliford over at SB Nation’s Bills blog Buffalo Rumblings is preparing for a change:

With the 2012 season officially in the books, the clock is officially ticking on the job status of Gailey, who is now 16-32 through three seasons as head coach. All indications at this point are that Gailey will lose his job; we should have a much clearer picture on that front within the next 24-48 hours. Until then, we’ll be pondering draft positioning and relishing what we can in kicking the Jets while they’re down. It’s officially the off-season, Bills fans. It’s go time!

The Bills will be drafting eighth in the 2013 NFL Draft, as opposed to sixth if they would have lost to the Jets. It will be the fourth consecutive top-10 pick for the franchise. It remains to be seen just who will be making that pick, as general manager Buddy Nix could be on the way out as well.
