Panthers vs. Saints 2012: Carolina improves overall record from 2011

DeAngelo Williams exploded for more than 200 yards of rushing, leading the Panthers to their fourth straight win to end a bittersweet 2012 season for Carolina.

Behind DeAngelo Williams' two touchdowns and 210 rushing yards, the Carolina Panthers ended their season on a high note, holding on for an impressive 44-38 win on the road to defeat Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints.

The Panthers began the game by jumping on the Saints for 10 quick points, but the Saints wouldn't be held in check for long and answered with two touchdowns of their own. But the Panthers running game took over in the second half as all four touchdowns were scored by either DeAngelo Williams or Mike Tolbert.

For the second straight season, the Panthers, who finish the season at 7-9, improved their overall record from the year before. As noted by Jaxon on SB Nation’s Panthers blog, Cat Scratch Reader, it may not be what Panthers fans wanted after an exciting 2011 year, but it is much better than what could have been.

With the divisional win over the Saints, the Panthers ended their season with a four-game winning streak after the wheels seemed to have come off. Since the Tampa Bay Buccaneers also won their game on Sunday, there is a three-way tie for second in the NFC South division.
