Arizona Cardinals defensive coordinator Ray Horton is reportedly a candidate for the Browns newly open head coach position. Mary Kay Cabot of the Plain Dealer tweeted Monday that Horton was "on the Browns radar" -- a report that comes on the heels of rumblings Sunday that Horton might be interviewed early in the week.
NFL coaching rumors: Ray Horton on Browns’ radar
Cardinals defensive coordinator Ray Horton is a name that has emerged as a candidate for the Browns head coach position.
The Browns fired head coach Pat Shurmur early Monday, a move that was expected for several weeks. The speculation over his replacement has been ongoing throughout the second half of the season, and several more names emerged as candidates Monday. Horton joins Dirk Koetter and Aaron Kromer as three NFL assistant names that have been floated just hours after Shurmur’s removal.
New Browns owner Jimmy Haslam and CEO Joe Banner met with the media on Monday and indicated that they will hire a coach before a new GM or personnel chief, who would replace Tom Heckert.
Horton worked with the Steelers for seven years before he was hired as defensive coordinator of the Cardinals two seasons ago. With both Ken Whisenhunt and Rod Graves out in Arizona, Horton could be moving on, and potentially moving up.
