Raiders’ Dennis Allen will coach despite father’s death

Allen will not attend practices this week but will be with the team on Thursday night to coach them against the Denver Broncos.

US PRESSWIRE

Oakland Raiders head coach Dennis Allen's father passed away Monday night from heart problems but according to the Raiders' official twitter page, Allen still plans to return to the team on Thursday to coach in the Raiders' game against the Denver Broncos that night. Offensive coordinator Greg Knapp is said to be running practice until Allen returns.

Allen kept the status of his father’s health to himself as his team was unaware of the situation and he did not mention it to reporters during or after the Raiders’ game on Sunday, according to CBS Sports. Word did not get out until after Allen left his postgame press conference.

Allen's father, Grady, played linebacker in the NFL for five years from 1968-1972 for the Atlanta Falcons. He fell ill last week and had to be hospitalized.

This is the second death the Raiders have had to deal with this season as their defensive line coach Terrell Williams’ four-year-old son, Tyson, died due to an illness.
