Todd Heap cut by the Cardinals

Heap joined the Cardinals last season but hadn’t played much this year due to injury.

The Arizona Cardinals have released veteran tight end Todd Heap, according to a tweet from ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Head coach Ken Whisenhunt had just said recently in the Arizona Republic that Heap was fully healthy but had to “show us in practice that he’s full speed enough to go, and that hasn’t been the case yet.” But instead of waiting it out, the Cardinals decided to release him on Tuesday.

Heap only caught eight balls for 94 yards due to being out with knee injuries for most of the season. Heap spent the first 10 years of his career with the Baltimore Ravens, where he was a productive pass-catching tight end. He joined the Cardinals last season.

The two-time Pro Bowler out of Arizona State has 499 receptions for 5,869 yards and 42 touchdowns for his career. He is 24th among active players in receptions and tied for 24th in receiving touchdowns.
