Stanford Routt to the Houston Texans

The enigmatic CB signed a big contract with Kansas City in the off-season but was cut a few weeks ago.

With Brice McCain headed to the IR and only three healthy CB's on their roster, the Texans signed former Raiders and Chiefs CB Stanford Routt on Tuesday, according to a report from John McClain of the Houston Chronicle.

Routt had spent seven seasons in Oakland before signing a three-year $20 million deal with Kansas City this off-season, but the Chiefs were so disappointed in his play that they cut him in early November.

At 6’2 195 with world-class track speed, he has ideal physical dimensions for a CB. However, he’s seen as somewhat of a character risk around the NFL and this may be his last chance to stick in the league.

In seven games with the Chiefs in 2012, Routt had 21 tackles, 4 pass deflections, 2 INT’s and a forced fumble.

Even before the injuries, pass defense has been a concern for the Texans, who are currently ranked No. 19 in the NFL in yards allowed through the air.
