The New England Patriots signed veteran wide receiver Donte' Stallworth on Tuesday and placed Julian Edelman on injured reserve with a foot injury.

The New England Patriots re-signed wide receiver Donte’ Stallworth after placing Julian Edelman on injured reserve.


Edelman hurt his foot during the Patriots 23-16 win over the Miami Dolphins on Sunday. Edelman had played particularly well of late, compiling 21 receptions for 235 yards and three touchdowns on the season. In addition to his receiving touchdowns, he returned a punt for a touchdown on Nov. 18 and returned a fumble for a touchdown on Nov. 22.
Stallworth spent training camp with the Patriots, but was released on Aug. 27. He also spent the 2007 season in New England. In his nine-year NFL career, he has 320 receptions for 4,774 yards and 34 touchdowns.
The Patriots also released offensive lineman Mitch Petrus. Petrus was signed on Nov. 12 and played in two games for the Patriots this season; he also played in six games for the New York Giants.
New England signed offensive linemen Tommie Draheim and Colin Miller to the practice squad on Tuesday.
