Dolphins place Jake Long on IR

Miami placed offensive lineman Jake Long on injured reserve on Tuesday, just two days after the No. 1 overall pick from the 2008 Draft injured his triceps.

Jake Long was placed on injured reserve by the Miami Dolphins on Tuesday, ending the offensive lineman's season -- possibly bringing his career in Miami to an end.

Long injured his triceps during the first quarter of Miami's Week 13 loss to the New England Patriots. Long exited the game and did not return to the field, but was spotted on the sideline wearing a heavy ice pack wrapped around his arm.

Ticketed for unrestricted free agency this winter, Long may have played his last snap with the Dolphins. Long was drafted by Miami with the No. 1 overall pick of the 2008 NFL Draft, and has been named to the Pro Bowl each of the first four years of his career.

If the Dolphins place the franchise tag on Long, it will cost the team over $15 million in 2013.

Rookie right tackle Jonathan Martin replaced Long at left position for the duration of the game against New England, and will likely stay there for the rest of the 2012 season.
